Commodore 64 Retropie Mod using keyrah v2

Welcome gamers to my first post. This was my commodore 64 from my younger days. I put it aside on top of my fathers hallway cupboard when i upgraded to a commodore 64c at Kmart going cheap. All these years later and my father finds it the condition below.

Which is not the best condition but hey, I like a challenge. So pulled her down and what i found was really bad

Unfortunately the Vic chip was getting hot and I noticed the CPU was corroded. Decided not to go further.

So I cleaned up the shell and thought what can I do with it.

Used old mate google and found out about the raspberry pi. Then found the keyrah that screws straight into the case. This device is a interface for the keyboard and joysticks to hookup to USB.

After working out what I needed and just over a month wait. I put the machine together and found that only a handful of keys we’re working. Found a keyboard matrix diagram on line and using my meter, worked out where the tracks were eaten away.

This took a few good hours to repair the keyboard but unfortunately I had already spent my money on parts and backing out just wasn’t a option.

In the end it was worth the blood sweat and tears (mainly swearing lol) but really enjoy using it. I must have been 8 years old when I first meet this machine and she lives on. Comment if you like me to write about setting up the retropie.
